BRUISED EGOS AT SHADOW LAKES
BRENTWOOD, Calif. - "I got beat by a girl."
That's a tough thing for a man to take, but that's exactly what happened to all but six of the gentlemen who played at Shadow Lakes on Sunday. Dragons rookie Tammy Lee, playing from the 6,327-yard Gold tees with a stout 134 slope rating, shot 83 and a net 66 to take 1st low net in the A-Flight.
It was a remarkable round, given the difficulty and the length of Shadow Lakes. Particularly impressive was her closing stretch, as Tammy played the last six holes in 1-over, with the wind whipping across the numerous lakes of the back nine. On the downhill Par-4 16th, Tammy was stuck in the left rough with a downhill lie, facing an island green 180 yards away with a stiff breeze in her face. Undaunted, she ripped it onto the green and two-putted for par.
Lawrence Ma (77/net 68) and Chris Chong (78/net 69) finished 2nd and 3rd low net, respectively. Stephen Tsang turned in an 83, tying the girl, to finish 4th low net.

Also avoiding the "I got beat by a girl" tag was Wes Chong, who shot 75 to take his second field low gross title of the year. Paul Loui, playing in his own backyard, turned in a 77 for 2nd low gross, with Tim Dien coming in third with a 79.
Rookies also continued to impress in the B-flight, as Thomas Leung (88/net 69) won first low net, with Angie Wong (91/net 73) and Fuzzy Pourahmadi (104/net 78) coming 2nd and 3rd low net respectively.
Ray Jeung took first low gross in the B-flight with an 86. Paul Lee (91) followed his B-flight low net win at Cinnabar Hills with a second low gross showing. Another rookie, Jason Kung (97), placed third.
The KPs in the A-flight went to Wes Chong, Lawrence Ma, Mark Norman and George Hsu. Thomas Leung collected two KPs for the B-flight, while Paul Lee got one. None in the B-flight hit the difficult Par-3 11th.
After two tournaments, Thomas Leung finds himself atop the Dragon Cup points list, with 310 points. Tammy Lee is second at 265 points and Wes Chong has moved into third place (245). The top 12 will be posted shortly at the Dragons GC Group Page at Facebook.com, and the full points list will be on the club website this evening.
The post-tournament dinner was at the local Chili's. Eight were in attendance despite the Generica offerings in Brentwood, which is east of the Caldecott Tunnel, but the Shiner Bock BBQ sauce was excellent on the baby back ribs. The consensus among the diners was that the LPGA Tour is better TV than the PGA Tour, that Jim Furyk and Kenny Perry are tied for the most hideous swings, that hot dogs at the turn always lead to double bogeys on the 10th, that Michelle Wie won't ever dominate, and that Tammy Lee is just awesome.
The Dragons will begin the summer swing of the 2010 season at Poppy Hills on June 13. Poppy Hills will be the last qualifying tournament for the Battle of the Bay in late June - the top 12 on the Dragon Cup points list after Poppy will represent the club at Chardonnay.
The Board has also mandated that all A-flight golfers who did not shoot 83 or better at Shadow Lakes must wear skirts for Poppy Hills. Plaid or pink, boys.
We are kidding. See you in June!
