WES CHONG BACK IN THE DRAGON CUP LEAD WITH A HIDDENBROOKE VICTORY

AMERICAN CANYON, Calif. - On the strength of yet another steady round that threatened par, Wes Chong is now back in the lead in the Dragon Cup race.

Trailing Paul Lee in the Dragon Cup race narrowly coming into the tournament, the Club Captain continued his brilliant summer form into the autumn, shooting 74 on a windy day at Hiddenbrooke. The round included four net birdies and three of the five A-Flight KPs. Wes' arch nemesis, Joe Kwok, finished 8 shots back (82) to take 2nd low gross in the A Flight.
Carter Mau returned to regular club tournament action in great form, shooting 85/net 69 to win the net division in the A Flight. The old Good Guys alumni showed well at Hiddenbrooke, with Larry Inouye shooting 84 to take 3rd low gross. Chris Chong (84) and John Chu (83) both shot net 73, with Chris edging John in a card-off for 2nd place. Larry picked up an A Flight KP on No. 3, while Mari Kobara (97/net 82) took the KP on No. 17.

In the B Flight, Jason Kung broke through with his first win, shooting 93 to take first low gross. Angie Wong (99) follows up her runner-up finish at The Weekender with another second low gross finish. Paul Lee's 103 was good enough for 3rd place and some Dragon Cup points to keep pace with Wes.
In the net division, Song-Min Wang picked up another B-Flight win with a 94/net 73. Karen Fong finished second with a 105/net 75. New member Judy Wu placed again, shooting 104/net 79 to take third place. The B Flight KPs went to Jason (No. 3), Angie (No. 6), Paul (No. 13), Karen (No. 15) and Aaron Wainscoat (No. 17).
Preliminary Dragon Cup standings show Wes Chong narrowly leading Paul Lee, with Lawrence Ma in third place.

The Hiddenbrooke tournament was certainly helpful to the Dragons' NorCal Cup squad, who will be returning to this course in October to compete against Oakland CGC, Sacramento CGC, and Santa Clara/Foon Hay CGC. Nine of the 12 BOB team members played Hiddenbrooke, with Wes, Carter, Song-Min, Angie, Paul and Karen showing good or decent form on a course with a lot of nuances. Lawrence dropped at least three shots to unseen hazards and bunkers, and had to get reacquainted with poa annua greens on his way to a horrid 88/net 80. Ken Lum (93/net 79) and Tim Lohse (107/net 85) also had rough times with Hiddenbrooke. Captain Wes, who will not be available to play at the NCC, will be putting together the line-up this week. Steve Tsang, who became a Dad this past weekend, was absent for a great 6 lbs, 9 oz bundle of joy. Paul Loui and Thomas Leung were also unable to play.
For the entire club, only the season finale at Lake Merced GC remains on the 2011 schedule. Lake Merced hosted in the NCAA West Regionals and the California State Amateur in 2009 and has just been awarded the 2012 USGA Junior Girls Amateur. Brand new bent greens are rolling at a frightening 12.0 on the stimp meter currently. The members-only outing followed by a wine-and-cheese reception will be on October 28.
