THANK YOU for a Great 2010! Happy Thanksgiving!
Dear Dragons GC Members:
On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for attending our Holiday Party & Awards Dinner at The Olympic Club on Sunday. It was wonderful to see the Vista Room, overlooking the 18th of the fabled Lake Course, filled again with members and significant others, brimming with holiday cheer and ready to celebrate.

Indeed, 2010 has been a memorable year for the Dragons, one in which everything got bigger and better. We hit our membership cap well before the start of the season, and had to keep an eager dozen waiting to compete until 2011. We added a seventh tournament and began our annual 36-hole championship and team match play at Half Moon Bay. We drank wine, ate Korean BBQ, did our grilling in Joe Kwok's backyard, had chowder and lobster rolls, took high tea in Victoria, and only after a great day of golf at Lake Merced did we sit down to cheer for our San Francisco Giants in the World Series. And we closed out the year once again with the prime buffet at The Olympic Club.
On the course, our members played well and the competition for the Dragon Cup was as close as ever. Paul Lee was crowned our 2010 club champion -- he dominated the B-Flight competition this season, won his flight in his Federation debut in Sacramento, and fought off the defending champion Wes Chong on a difficult Lake Merced course in the season finale. The perpetual Dragon Cup trophy will now sit on Paul's mantle, until the season finale next October. On the NCGA circuit, the Dragons made it to the NCGA Associate Club Championship finals again, with the team of Carter Mau, Tim Lohse, Xiao-Ming Chen, and Paul Lee. In the Federation, Wes Chong won his fifth consecutive field low gross title at the Sacramento Memorial Day tournament, and the Dragons won the NorCal Cup at Hiddenbrooke in a rain storm.

Wes was named the Most Improved Player among the gentlemen, and Tammy Lee, who went from 9 to 3.8 as she pursues a Tour Card, was named our Ladies' MIP. It is bittersweet for us to award Tammy the MIP, as we say good luck to her on the eve of her move to Florida to better her game. But there are no good byes among Dragons, and we will see Tammy again now and then, if not at the Weekender 2.0, then on the GolfChannel. On the other extreme, the high gross distinctions, if that, went to Cathy Cai and Art Wang. Both took it in good spirit, clutching their boxes of Price Club Blue Tag Special Top-Rocks. In the case of Art, we can understand that the game has not been a top priority, as he battles cancer. But let it be known that Art was among the first to renew his membership for 2011, has been hitting balls down in Palo Alto, and vows that the Goofy Golfer prize will be Martin Chang's next year.
On the eve of Thanksgiving, we are grateful for both the enthusiastic support of our membership, as well as the members serving on the Board, contributing their skills, creativity, and time to make the Dragons the special group that it is. Mari Kobara, Fuzzy Pourahmadi, Jonathan Wong, Alex Chong, Wes Chong and Martin Chang each in their own ways have made 2010 a success. And in 2011, we welcome Avachai "A.T." Tayjasanant, Angie Wong, and Paul Loui to the Board. Still more of you have approached me about serving on the board or on a committee, and we are so pleased to have your support -- we will find all of you a role to make 2011 the best year ever for the Dragons.

The Board would also like to thank Paul Tan of Peninsula Golf, President Emeritus Ken Lum, and Tammy Lee for their generous contributions to our Holiday Raffle. Ken, like Wes or anybody on or just off this Board, simply will not keep raffle or tournament prizes won from our travels or business dealings -- club presidents always put it all into our own club. And what a bountiful raffle it was. Three golf bags, including a Grey Goose cart bag and a custom-embroidered Dragons GC stand bag, were raffled off. There were countless sleeves of golf balls, putters and wedges, Tiger Woods Collection shirts, accessories, household items, books and DVDs, a couple of bottles of wine, the Cal gear that nobody but Rob Dang wants, and of course, socks. I can promise you that the Chongs, who did well as a family in the raffle, did not rig the game -- it's just that there are so darn many of them Chongs! And the Leung-Lee-Dien-Wong clan also cleaned up -- C'mon, Paul and your in-laws, let other people win a little something! When Ray Jeung, who got shut out in the raffle, brings his sons Preston and Jason in next year and go to Table 1, which Ken insists is lucky, things are going to be different!
