A rare summer rainstorm hit the Portland area on the morning of the first round at Pumpkin Ridge, but the field was blessed with a partly sunny afternoon at the Ghost Creek course. Jonathan Wong (85/72), Ray Jeung (88/net 73) and Bobby Chang (84/net 79) each turned in solid performances. The top four net scores of each 5-person team counted toward the final totals.
Lawrence , Carol, Bobby, Jonathan and Ray were joined in Portland by fellow Dragons Jon Chong and CathyCai. The group's luck with the weather ran out the following mornings, as another rare summer cold front ripped through the Portland area. Heavy squalls and wind battered the field during the second round of the Invitational at Langdon Farms, and the scores went through the roof.

Ray Jeung , with a two-day net total of 73-74, turned in one of the better individual performance for the club at the Invitational (5th in Men's B-Flight). As usual, the traveling Dragons had fun on and off the golf course. Following the tournament registration reception on Friday, Sept. 4, a number of Dragons went for steaks and a bottle of Archery Summit pinot noir at Ringside, a local favorite. Following the stellar team performance at Pumpkin Ridge, Bobby led a large group of Dragons and friends from Vancouver and Victoria CGCs to Typhoon, one of the best Thai restaurants anywhere. Between the tournament functions and the club dinners, members also managed to squeeze in some shopping (no sales tax up here in Oregon!).
The Awards Banquet for the Invitational was held at the tournament hotel, the Crowne Plaza Lake Oswego. Under the atrium of the Crowne Plaza , the members enjoyed a hosted cocktail hour, followed by a buffet dinner. In traditional reverse prize draw, Carol was the big winner, taking home an Adams hybrid. Bobby's phenomenal birdie on the difficult Par-4 8th at Langdon Farms on Sunday won a skin the Championship Flight worth $46. And at last, the members of the Dragons Federation Team Match squad were recognized by Federation President Hugh Lee for our victory, and each member received a crystal for their efforts.
