SEATTLE 2011: Veni, Vidi, Vici

SEATTLE, Washington - The Dragons had its strongest showing to date in Federation invitationals at the 67th InterCity Invitational in Seattle this past Labor Day weekend.  The club brought 17 members to Seattle (second only to the 120-member Oakland CGC's 22-person contingent), and had players in 3 out of the 4 men's flights and both women's flights.  The Dragons won in all but one of the five flights we entered, and finished 2nd in the Federation Team Matches.  MORE...

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.- In another first for the Dragons Golf Club, Angie Wong and Judy Wu represented the Club in the 7th Annual NCGA Women's Net Amateur.  And what a great debut for the ladies, as Judy finished second and Angie T12 in the Director's (second) flight in the 36-hole net competition at Poppy Hills Golf Course. Judy shot a two-day net total of 143 (1 under), and finished five strokes behind Charlotte Wells of EWGA Sacramento (70-68 138 net).  Angie went 154 net (10 over) to finish in a 5-way tie for 12th.  Both ladies played with an 18 handicap.  MORE...

BRENTWOOD, Calif. - The Dragons Golf Club hosted the 10th Annual Battle of the Bay, a 12-person team match competition against our rivals from San Francisco CGC, Oakland CGC and Marin CGC.  After finishing second last year at Chardonnay, 25.5 to 22.5 to Oakland CGC, the Dragons were looking to win it on the same Deer Ridge course where the club contested its June monthly tournament.   MORE...

Deer Ridge- How Low Can You Go?

BRENTWOOD, Calif. - Did we have a spring in the Bay Area this year, or did we go straight from winter to summer?

After record rain fall and cold temperatures well into the first weekend of June, the weather finally turned for the better as the Dragons returned to Uncle Loui's backyard for the club tournament at Deer Ridge.  With no clouds in the sky and temperature approaching 80, the Dragons were blessed with ideal scoring conditions, and smooth sailing on the course with rounds coming in at just under four-and-a-half hours.   MORE...

The Dragons Win Federation Team Matches at LACGC Memorial Day Invite

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Dragons Golf Club claimed its second Federation Team Match title in three years at the LACGC Memorial Day Invitational last Friday, as the team of George Hsu, Jim Hwang, Chris Chong and Jon Chong shot a 7-under 3-best net ball score to prevail over SFCGC and Oakland CGC.  The matches took place on the Ike Course at the renovated Industry Hills G.C., and the team was anchored by Chris' 83 and Jon's 86.  Jim (96) and George (99) had strong starts that were offset by a couple of big numbers.   MORE...

Uncle Loui Tames Roddy Ranch, Takes Dragon Cup Lead

ANTIOCH, Calif. - A freak late-season winter storm struck last weekend, as the Dragons arrived at Roddy Ranch for the second tournament of the season.  The temperatures were in the low 50's, a cold wind blew, and for the first two hours of the day, rain showers came down on the gang.  It wasn't helpful that the Dragons once again ran into a bunch of chops, this time the Roddy Ranch Men's Club, who apparently really suck on their own course and doomed both our club and another NCGA group just ahead of us, to a 6-hour day.   MORE...

The Tough Got Going at 2011 Season Opener

GILROY, Calif - It looked like a picture-perfect day for the 2011 Season Opener, but pictures do not always tell the whole story. Although the sun was out last Saturday, a cold and stiff breeze whipped through Eagle Ridge, making the Johnny Miller course even more obnoxious.  After the opening shot on the benign No. 1, the loudmouth of NBC Sports flips the golfers the bird and proceeds to present a plethora of trouble -- deep bunkers, out-of-bounds, and (or) water hazards confront seemingly every shot thereafter.  The greens were no bargain either, with hardly a flat spot on them and pace that only got faster in the wind.   MORE...

The Dragons and The Federation: A Brief History

The Dragons GC is an affiliate of the Chinese Golf Federation, an organization that blazed the trails for generations of Asian-American golfers and continues to champion and celebrate diversity in the game of golf. Our vibrant club of young Asian-American professionals, playing at upscale daily fee and private club courses today, can trace its roots directly to a tiny group of Chinese-American golfers at a muni in the City nearly a century ago. It is a remarkable legacy worthy of consideration and our continued support.  MORE...

Oh Canada! Dragons' Carol Lee Takes Second in Victoria

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA - How far back is too far back?  The question is asked often as one looks at a leaderboard, wondering if a pick in fantasy golf can pull off a win or just top 10.  And if you're the golfer, what is your mindset when you tee it up after a horrendous start? MORE...

HALF MOON BAY, Calif., August 16, 2010 - The Dragons Golf Club hosted its inaugural 36-hole medal play championship and intra-club match play at the spectacular Half Moon Bay Golf Links this past weekend, and what an auspicious occasion it was.  Against the back drop of the stately Ritz-Carlton and the Pacific Ocean, 28 members on sides of 14 each battled over two days on two dramatically different courses.  In the end, Team Black, led by club president Lawrence Ma, defeated club captain Wes Chong's Team Red, 11 1/2 to 9 1/2. Weekender Captains Exchange Opening Shots At Presidio and Team Draft

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., July 24, 2010 - Mark Twain allegedly said, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco."  There's probably more than one Dragon who would vouch for the quip, as the club returned to the City to play the Presidio GC Sunday. MORE...

The Odd Couple at the Reno Invitational

RENO, Nevada, July 14, 2010 - It was an intimate gathering at the 24th Oakland CGC Invitational in Reno this week, as just about 60 competitors came from all corners of the Federation to take on D'Andrea Golf Club and Somersett Country Club.  MORE...

Wes and the "Whippersnappers" win in Sacramento

LINCOLN, Calif., June 1, 2010 - If Colonial Country Club is called "Hogan's Alley," then Lincoln Hills Golf Club must be henceforth known as "Chong's Backyard," as Wes Chong won his fifth consecutive Field Low Gross title at the 57th Federation Memorial Day Invitational in Sacramento. MORE...

Bruised egos at Shadow Lakes

BRENTWOOD, Calif., May 16, 2010 - "I got beat by a girl."

That's a tough thing for a man to take, but that's exactly what happened to all but six of the gentlemen who played at Shadow Lakes on Sunday.  Dragons rookie Tammy Lee, playing from the 6,327-yard Gold tees with a stout 134 slope rating, shot 83 and a net 66 to take 1st low net in the A-Flight. MORE...
